About the Wagon & Horses
The Wagon & Horses, Lancaster, is a listed renovated historic building situated along
the quayside of the River Lune. A new owner took over in September 2022.
In its very early years The Wagon & Horses (then the Cart & Horses) was a beer house, quenching the thirst of those who toiled for a living. It is now a thriving pub and hotel offering an informal & relaxed dining experience where you can literally drink, dine and stay within one of our six beautifully appointed bedrooms (most with river views). One of the twin rooms is also a universally accessible room, with a wet room. There is also a lift that services the first floor for access. Save money by booking direct here (it’s always cheaper!). All rates shown include a gorgeous cooked to order breakfast.
The Wagon & Horses is family and dog friendly (downstairs) and also plays host to an amazing schedule of entertainment and live music throughout the year (check out our events page). Large groups and celebrations are welcome and we’re able to cordon off sections of the pub to dine with us. The bar is large and has an excellent array of Robinsons hand pulls, kegged products and a great selection of wines and spirits.
The team look forward to welcoming you to The Wagon & Horses soon – Lancaster’s Quay to the best hospitality!

About Lancaster
Lancaster is a vibrant university city with a wealth of history, beginning life as a Roman Fort in 80AD. Now its cobbled streets are lined with smart, stone houses filled with lively shops, bars, and restaurants, including the Wagon & Horses. As you walk up to the stunning Grade II listed stone building that is the Wagon and Horses, you are overcome by the pure beauty of this building. The windows are top-hung casements imitating four-pane sashed, which are adorned with beautiful hanging baskets and planters in all seasons.
Lancaster is a city and the county town of Lancashire standing on the River Lune. The House of Lancaster was a branch of the English Royal Family. The Duchy of Lancaster still holds large estates on behalf of the late Elizabeth II, who was also Duke of Lancaster. Its long history is marked by Lancaster Castle, Lancaster Priory Church, Lancaster Cathedral, and the Ashton Memorial. It is the city of Lancaster University and has a campus of the University of Cumbria.
